Biography

A career built on restraint, open country, and the people who stay.

From regional repertory stages to features he now writes and directs himself, Ray Callahan has kept the same instinct: trust the silence, trust the landscape, trust the audience.

Early years

Raised between a working ranch and a two-screen cinema, the pull of both places never really settled.

A first stage role at seventeen turned into a decade of small parts and long drives.

Screen work

A run of character leads through the nineties gave way to directing, beginning with a modest western shot entirely in natural light.

The work since has favoured location shooting, small crews, and long takes.

Music and the road

The Wider Road began as a between-films outlet and became a touring band with three records behind it.

Benefit weekends remain the heart of the live schedule.
